Different arrangement of the words on the lines
Line 14 should end with the word את ,but השמים was also written on this line. From that point on, the mezuza was written in a different way as the tradittional(Keeset Hasofer, 27-5, Lishkat Hasofer-4). Does this make the mezuza posul, or it is kosher bedieved and just the soffer was not "metticulous"?
It is still kosher, the wording in the keses is "nahagu lasosa 22 shitin" the Mishnas Hasofer ibid:22 writes that one should not mizalzel in this however it per se does not posul the mezuza bidieved.
ReplyDeleteI agree to Dovid the mezuza is kosher, the [specific words] begining the lines is only a minhag. This can not be classified as b'deived.
ReplyDeleteIts rare in mezuzha though. roshie hashitin not being like the kaballa is much harder to keep in tefillin
ReplyDeleteDoes the Mem of Matar need Tikun?
ReplyDeletethere are several memim that there is no pgam between the vav and caf, in a regular situation this should be fixed. [there are minority opinions that consider this a pasul]
ReplyDeleteFrom the Shulchan Aruch Harav it seems that it is better not to keep the oshei hashitin by tefillin then to stretch letters. As a matter of fact the idea of streatching letters seems to be quite a no no acc to the AR.
ReplyDeleteReb Moshe can you explain acc to the AR:
1) Is it a no no to stretch by tefillin, but by sefer torah is OK?
2) Is it permissable to stretch at least the stretchable letters (lehaderes) in tefillin acc to SA harav?
3) If the answer to no. 2 is negative, why does everyone do it?
The above is from siman 35

ReplyDeleteAccording to the SA [from gemara] it is better not to stretch any letter lechatchila. But this directive isn't followed today.
ReplyDeleteThe reason is, people write according to a tikun, and are awfuly afraid to miss the rashei shitin 1) because they are scared they might get mixed up in the continuation 2) most sofrim don't want to do any variation from the norm, because the clients wont accept it (or cause problem), and it has become accepted as norm to stretch some letters.
According to the hallacha there isn't a difference between ST tfilin/mezuza, but l'mayse [at least chasidim] are very makpid in tefilin to keep the rashei hashitin because of the instruction of Arizal regarding (and the special cavana he explains).
There is a question in regard to Rabenu Tam's tefilin, since the vehaya im shamoa is made a parsha pesucha at its end, causing the last line to be very cramped. Some are makpid on the rashei shitin of Ari, lengthening the lines somewhat so extra stretching/or extra spacing in the lines above, others change the rashei shitin in RT's Vehaya Im Shamoa. [the Ari's cavana on rashei shitin are written on rashi's, we dont know if this cavana is equal and apply to RT's as well].
[There is a 5th Shulchna Oruch] One must be extremely sensitive to others belonging.

Should one point out the owner, and make it uncomfortable?
Perhaps the situation needs great care and one may point-out the inconsistency if there is more serious halacha troubles.

Reb Moshe:my Q with the Mem of Matar and similar ones is there seems to be some sort of Blita on top. What constitutes a Blita that would form a Pgm.?How much of a Blita & where exactly?
ReplyDeleteYitzchok,
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that if the vav and caf are stuck together on top, in a way that the gag of the mem resembles the gag of a stuma [the whole gag is straight (flat) without a pgima dividing the vav from the caf] some acharonim wrote that since the gag of the mem psucha resembles a mem stuma, although opened at the bottom, is half a letter that changed to another form.
If the caf and vav are connected on a angle so the gag doesn't resemble a stuma, its kosher l'kule alma, although there isn't a pgima in between, although this isn't lechatchila a correct tzura of mem psucha.
Hence when there is a blita - the sofrim say the gag isn't one, so there is no problem [bdieved].
The ikar lehalcha is, that this isn't pasul even if the gag of the mem would be straight flat, it would be a shaylas tinok whether thats a psucha or stuma. Obviously, lechatchila it should be fixed.
So in order to fix they add some ink to the gag of the caf, forcing, a hight on the caf side that constitutes a difference between the caf and vav. But this blita must be at the connecting point of the caf to the vav, if the blita is in the center of the caf's gag this doesn't help at all, rather is an additional minor shinuy to the letter.
If the line of Vehaya in a Mezuza was being written, and after writing the word Asher the Sofer realizes that the word Anochi will stick out by 2 letters:
ReplyDelete1)Is there any Issur of erasing some words to make every letter remain inside?(according to AR Siman 32 Sif 48 no option for stretching or Mechikos is given)
2)If indeed there's some sort of Issur of erasing
A)Is it better to stretch a little the word Asher and put Anochi on the next line?
B)Is it better to put 2 letters ofAnochi outside and keep Rashei Shittin
The best option is to erase, there is no isur erasing a kosher word in mezuza or tefilin for the sake of fixing the general text.
ReplyDeleteIf this option is not taken, then A is better stretching the reish of asher, not keeping the rashei shura. [maybe hallacha'dik the B option would be considerable, but l'mayse it will degrade the mezuza, at the sofers expense, so it is the worse option].
I noticed inDavidovitch's Tikun Torah that when ever there is a Chaf Peshuta at the end of a line;and the end of the next line has a Lamud;the Lamud always sticks out of the line.Would in not be more Halachakly correct that the Chof should go more towards the right and the Lamud not stick out at all?
ReplyDeleteI will have to think about it.
