Reish with dot
Here is a great example of a Reish that has a dot in it that turned into a Hei. This shailo came to the Beis Horah today by R' Shammai and I Baruch HaShem was able to get it from the Sofer afterwards.
R' Shammai said it's pasul.
"ובשעריך"
R' Shammai said it's pasul.
"ובשעריך"
I would say shaylas tinok !

ReplyDeleteHe seems to be more makil when it's an ois going into the letter, not like when you have a small dot like this by itself...
In סימן לב סעיף טו of Shulchan Aruch only the רא"ש holds a כל שהוא to מכשיר the tzurah of a ה whereas the Rama brings that sh'ar poskim hold it requires a מלא אות קטנה for it to look like a Hey.
ReplyDeleteFrom this statement by the Rama it would seem to me you have what to rely on to machshir this klaf even without sha'ailat tinok.

what is rav shammai's opinion on pencil markings that go inside a chalal af a reish, daled or chof pshutah?
ReplyDeleteWhen we spoke about this once he said it depends how dark it is. If it's light then no problem. If it's dark then already what to talk about and each case would be judged on it's on.
