Ink, Kosher vs. non-Kosher
We all know that there is no ancient source that requires ink to be מן המותר בפיך . Possibly, as said here before, because in the olden days ink was always מן המותר בפיך and the question was never raised. It was probably self-evident. Nowadays, no decent Rav will approve an ink which is not מן המותר בפיך . Who was the first one to raise this question? Was it raised because of animal ingredients or because of non-kosher wine?

Dear Readers and Members, The forum has been down for over 6 months because the domain name (www.stamforum.com) lapsed and it is no longer available to re purchase. Although this forum is now defunct (it has morphed into several whatsapp groups), I have had many requests to put it back online because it contains so much information (over 1,800 posts and thousands of comments in the discussions, on a wide range of topics related to STa"M). I have therefore put the forum back online at blogger, so the address is www.stamforum.blogspot.com. The forum lasted for a decade...not a bad effort! It was pretty popular back in the days before whatsapp and managed to receive over a million hits in it's short life. It was one of the only organised forums in the STa"M world and definitely the largest in it's heyday. Question: Are the three lines ending with "Uvisharecha" "onochi" and "uleovdo" considered kuba, since the uvisharecha is in the correct place (it is SUPPOSED to be indented), there is a svara that it should not be included in the kuba since it is in the correct place?
ReplyDeleteThere are 2 psulim of zuba/zanav in this mezuzah according to Rav Elyashiv. The first starts with the line ending Anochi as the following 2 lines stick out the width of an ohs ketana and the 2nd with the line ending with Beisecha. There's no kuba or Zanav here according to Rav Vozner.
Deletethere is a debate between rabonim. I think Yehoshua asked R. Shammai Gross, and R. Shammai said one can be meikel. this was on the forum a long tome ago.

Firstly, Rav Shamai has a teshuva and says clearly indentation of a shiur parsha isn;t included and mentions Rav Elyashiv.
DeleteWith regards to Rav Vozner, he held the same, as I confirmed with Rav Moshe Shaul Klein. I'm not sure where Rav Shamai heard or saw otherwise. A possible source in the Shevet Halevi that he held the indentation is not included is in chelek 9.
Do you know who wrote this mezuzah? I once read a horror story of an Israeli Arab student in the Technion with calligraphy skills who used to write mezuzot...

If someone brought this mezuzah to me to check I'd refuse and have told him to put it in geniza. The person who wrote it is clearly not reliable.

ReplyDeleteI'm going over the sugya of kuba/zanav. Yeriot Shlomo says that Rav Vozner holds that Uvisharecha is counted however, I looked at the source in Shevet Halevi and I don't see it and have not found any other source who says it in the name of Rav Vozner. Even Rav Stern in Mishnas Hasofer, who says "tzarich iyun lehakel when Uvisharecha is part of the kuba/zanav, does not quote his rebbi, Rav Vozner as a source.
